Stonar Lake

At Stonar you must dip your nets, slings & mats in the dip tank and wait 15 minutes with your nets before choosing & moving on to a swim.

Brief History

CDAA acquired the fishing at Stonar Lake early in 2003 and opened the lake on the 1st May 2003.

In January 2021 Jock White, our long term and well respected part time bailiff passed away. Such is the high regard in which Jock was held that his favourite swim "the Bunker" is to be re-named in Jock's honour and a memorial bench has been installed. An open competition has been scheduled in support of Jock's favourite charity.

Stonar lake is slightly saline and as a consequence supports billions of small brackish water shrimp (Palaemon varians). These in turn support the speedy growth of all the fish species. Roach, Rudd and Perch are regularly caught at 2lbs and over. Very large catches of Bream in the 4lb to 6lb bracket are regularly taken. The carp too are packing on weight and are being caught to 30lbs plus.

Parking - we have a car park that can be accessed through the gates from the main road between Pfizers and Sandwich, coming past Pfizers it is on the left near the roundabout. From this access point anglers and their vehicles can access all of the swims on the factory and river banks together with the road banks as far as The Chalks.

The fishing on the road bank extends up towards Pfizers as far as the sub-station, the section between the sub-station and Pfizers bank is not available for fishing. Pfizers bank is also out of bounds.

A section of the River Stour is also available to fish, between the sleeper markers to the boundary with Pfizers. Great care is needed when getting to a swim, especially where the bank is steep. Do take care, as there are plenty of places to fish from without taking any risks – note the water is very deep.

There are a lot of birds making use of the site and lake, do not disturb nesting birds. No member may carry out even minor alterations to swims or the surrounding soil structure.
